Energise your summer holidays with our Summer Internship Program.
Each year, we offer 12-week internships to undergraduate students studying in a range of disciplines. This program offers you the chance to apply your academic theory from the classroom to an industry environment, working on real projects. You’ll be supported with experienced mentors and continual training so when you graduate, you’ll have the skills and practical experience ready to take on your career.
Our Summer Internship Program is an excellent inclusion on your resume. You may be able to have this internship recognised through your university and gain credit towards your degree.
How does our Summer Internship Program work?
The internships are for a period of up to 12 weeks over your summer university break from late November to mid-February.
The program will give you a taste of what it’s like to work in the water industry and an understanding of the various career pathways at Gippsland Water.
You’ll be given real business projects. This means the internships we offer vary from year to year.
We’re typically on the lookout for undergraduate students studying the following disciplines:
- Civil engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Mechatronics engineering

Previous interns
Fintan Hastie - former Summer Internship Program participant
“While I was in the program, I had eight different tasks that I had to do and all of them were completely different, but everything that I did touched on an aspect that I was doing in my degree,” the Deakin University student said.
Fintan said working in our Finance and Governance teams has helped him to identify the type of work he wants to do when he graduates.
“I had no idea what I wanted to do before I started here. I knew that I loved business, but I didn’t know where I wanted to go in business and it’s really opened my eyes to all the different avenues that you can go down.”
Towards the end of his internship, Fintan was asked if he’d like to continue working with us, through which he was able to gain even more relevant and valuable experience.
“I’ve been given a lot of opportunity while I’m here to grow and develop.”
