Milestone reached on $55M Drouin wastewater treatment plant

Gippsland Water’s new $55 million Drouin wastewater treatment plant has reached a new milestone, with commissioning – a period of extensive testing and fine tuning – now underway.

The upgraded plant is one of the organisation’s flagship projects from its 2018 Pricing Submission to the Essential Services Commission, and is essential to meeting the growing needs of Drouin and local industries.

In recent years, the existing plant has reached maximum capacity and struggled to handle peak flows during heavy rain.

The new, bigger plant will be powered by renewable energy, accommodate greater volumes to support current and future population growth and produce higher quality treated wastewater – all of which will provide better environmental outcomes and better protect public health.

The new Drouin wastewater treatment plant is expected to be operational in 2023.
