We’re planning for the future and expected growth in Traralgon, Morwell and Tyers with a series of major infrastructure projects that strengthen the water supply to the towns.
We’re also constructing a 50ML water storage at our Clarkes Road site to store more water for supplying Traralgon, Morwell, Glengarry, Toogabbie, Cowwarr, and Rosedale.
Then we’ll build a new major water main to connect the Traralgon water treatment plant to the water storage basins at the Clarkes Road site. This is the first stage in a bigger plan that will connect the Traralgon and Morwell water supply networks.
The next stage of the plan will connect customers in Glengarry, Toongabbie, Cowwarr, Rosedale and Willung to the Traralgon water treatment plant with a new major water pipeline between Traralgon and Glengarry. This will increase water supply reliability for these towns that currently rely on the smaller Tyers water treatment plant.
A number of smaller upgrades and works will support these big projects.
- We’ll be installing a pump station to supply high level customers in Rosedale
- Glengarry will get a new high pressure zone main.
- The basin at the Tyers water treatment plant will get a new liner and cover and bypass system.
- Rosedale will also have new treated water tanks to store water for the town from the Traralgon water treatment plant.
All these works are part of our longer-term planning for the future.
In the next 10-15 years, we plan to connect the Morwell, Traralgon and Tyers systems and have them supplied from one treatment plant at a new location in the north of Morwell.

More information
Customer benefits
The project will:
Ensure the water supply for Traralgon, Morwell, Tyers, Glengarry, Toongabbie, Cowwarr, Willung and Rosedale into the future.
Resolve low water pressure concerns for Traralgon in the peak summer water demand.
Increase efficiencies by allowing us to transfer water between the towns to meet demand.
Environment and cultural heritage
Like with all our works, we want to minimise environmental and cultural heritage impacts.
Things we’re doing to minimise our environmental and cultural heritage impacts include:
- Undertake relevant cultural heritage assessments to develop a Cultural Heritage Management Plans for works
- Complete environmental assessments
We’ll work with our contractors to implement Construction Environmental Management Plans during the works to ensure we minimise our environmental impact.
We’ll use low impact construction techniques where necessary, such as underground boring rather than open trenching, in sensitive areas.
Consultation and engagement
We’ll be regularly consulting with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
We welcome direct comments and enquiries from the community at any time.
Project timing
We expect all projects to be complete in 2028.
