Buln Buln and Boisdale students are poster competition winners
Buln Buln Primary School student Sidney Box is the winner of Gippsland Water's poster competition for National Water Week, while Boisdale Consolidated School took out the school prize.
The year 1/2 student won a prize pack including a $100 Coles Myer voucher and was, awarded his prize at his school assembly.
Sidney and fellow student Grace Stevens were also runners up in the state competition, earning themselves $250 each and a combined $300 for their school.
Boisdale Consolidated School won the $500 school prize which was presented to school principal Daniel Clark last Monday. These funds will be used towards a sustainability project or learning resources for the school.
“We are very proud of our students for their efforts in producing some wonderful posters,” Mr Clark said
“Their entries reminded us about the importance of reducing pollution, water conservation and how vital water is to our health, animals and our entire planet.”
Gippsland Water managing director Sarah Cumming said the organisation was delighted with the quality of the entries this year, which made it difficult to select the winners.
“We received hundreds of entries and asked our employees to help us vote for the winners,” Ms Cumming said.
“Voting was tight, but in the end Sidney’s poster shone through. Sidney’s mixed media entry was particularly impressive for his use of vibrant colours, illustration and collage.
“His message about keeping our water free from pollution was particularly poignant in a year where water security is a huge focus for our organisation and region.”
National Water Week is an annual celebration of water which makes a splash across Australia during the third week of October each year. It’s designed to encourage our community to take action to help protect and conserve our most precious natural resource – water. This year National Water Week was held from 21 October to 27 October.
