Applications are now open for Gippsland Water’s annual community support program.

The program offers financial support for projects with a focus on water conservation and education, the local environment, public health or community wellbeing.

Managing director Sarah Cumming said local community groups can apply for financial support of up to $5,000 or drinking fountains.

“Last year, four local organisations received up to $5,000 each for a project, and three more received drinking fountains.

“We also donated 14 new drinking fountains to local councils so that the community has easier access to tap water in our CBDs, sporting precincts, parks and other community spaces,” Ms Cumming said.

The program, now in its third year, has been successful in helping local groups deliver innovative and sustainable projects including watering and irrigation systems for community gardens and school education programs.

Schools, sporting groups and community organisations are encouraged to apply.

“This is just one of the ways we partner with our community to improve health outcomes and enhance the liveability of our region,” Ms Cumming concluded.

Applications close on Friday 9 October and successful applicants will be announced in November.
