Construction starts on major new sewer asset for Sale

Gippsland Water has commenced construction of a multi-million dollar outfall sewer pump station in Foster Street, Sale.

Managing Director Sarah Cumming said that local company GBG Concrete & Construction Pty Ltd had been awarded the contract to undertake civil works on the project, with site excavation scheduled to begin this month.

“The excavation will enable us to install a storage tank and wet well, which are essential to support the ongoing development and liveability of our region.

“When complete, this important piece of infrastructure will service Sale, Wurruk and Fulham for the next 65 years.”

Ms Cumming said the project had been carefully planned to reflect community feedback.

“We’ve been working with Wellington Shire Council and the community throughout the planning and design phase, and we’re excited to be incorporating a community-led concept for the fencing and planting of the site.”

Ms Cumming said that while surrounding landholders had been informed of the works, residents and visitors should take extra care when passing by the site over the coming months.

The new outfall sewer pump station, expected to be completed in late 2020, is one of three Gippsland Water infrastructure projects being delivered in Sale during 2019, along with a sewer pump station on Raglan Street and a new main at the Sale water treatment plant.
