Gippsland Water and Baw Baw Shire partner to keep park visitors hydrated
Joggers, dog walkers and picnickers can stay hydrated while enjoying the sunshine at Bellbird Park’s off-leash dog area in Drouin and Brooker Park in Warragul thanks to Gippsland Water and Baw Baw Shire Council.
Gippsland Water has partnered with Baw Baw Shire Council to provide a drinking fountain, complete with a dog bowl, at both parks.
Gippsland Water managing director Sarah Cumming said Gippsland Water is committed to improving health in the region.
“We have a real role to play in contributing to community health and wellbeing.
“That’s why we’re partnering with local councils to increase access to tap water in key locations right across Gippsland.
“Tap water is the best option to quench your thirst. It’s cheap and it’s good for the environment, with no plastic ending up in landfill.
“Next time you’re taking your dog for a play at Bellbird Park, going for a jog or enjoying a picnic at Brooker Park, fill up your water bottle and stay hydrated – and give your dog a drink too.”
Baw Baw Shire mayor, Cr Danny Goss, said the new drinking fountains had already been well used since their installation.
“Over the last few months, we’ve seen people using our walking trails and paths more than ever before – many with their dogs in tow,” Cr Goss said.
“These fountains have been a great addition to our much-loved parks.
“We have also recently completed a new toilet block at Brooker Park, helping families to stay and enjoy the new playground for as long as they like.”
