Gippsland Water helps 11 community groups bring projects to life

Five community groups will receive permanent drinking fountains and six more have secured funding towards community projects, thanks to Gippsland Water.

General manager people and customer Michael Crane said the organisation was keeping its promise to contribute at least $30,000 each year towards local community initiatives.

“Gippsland community groups do so much to improve our lives and to enhance the communities we live in. It’s great to be able to support them in this way.

“This round of our Community Support Program will see 11 community groups able to turn their ideas into reality.

“We’ll see five new permanent drinking fountains and four rainwater tanks installed, and two really innovative projects that will benefit our communities,” Mr Crane said.

Gippsland Plains Rail Trail committee member Deb Brown was pleased to secure a drinking water fountain for the rail trail in Toongabbie.

“We’re excited that walkers and joggers using the rail trail will be able to grab a drink of water while enjoying all that Toongabbie has to offer,” Ms Brown said.

Neerim South Primary School will use funds to create a dedicated environment for native animals and Moe Life Skills Community Centre will build a community vegetable garden.

Rainwater tanks will be installed by Stockdale Road Primary School Traralgon, Eastern Park Community Garden Warragul, Rosedale Recreation Reserve Inc, and Girl Guides Victoria in Glengarry West.

Permanent drinking fountains will be installed by the Drouin Dragons Soccer Club, Gippsland Plains Rail Trail, Good Shepherd Lutheran Congregation Traralgon, Stratford Cricket Club and Traralgon City Soccer Club Inc.

Recipients were chosen based on their alignment with six priority areas: water, water conservation, water and wastewater education, the environment, public heath, and community wellbeing.
