Gippsland Water sponsorship recipients announced
Gippsland Water has announced the recipients of its second annual community support sponsorship program, with eight organisations from across Gippsland securing funding towards community-based projects.
Managing director Sarah Cumming said the sponsorship program—which has again seen strong demand—was developed in response to feedback received from customers.
“In 2017, our customers told us they wanted us to be more visible, engaged and involved in the local community. One of the ways we promised to achieve this is by investing at least $30,000 per annum into programs that support the community health and wellbeing five year period.”
Ms Cumming said the following projects were chosen based on their alignment with Gippsland Water’s values and six focus areas being water, water conservation, water and wastewater education, the environment, public health and community wellbeing:
- Boolarra Football Netball Club, Yinnar Recreation Reserve, Traralgon Cemetery and Kurnai College will install drinking water fountains, providing easier access to tap water, and reducing consumption of sugary drinks and single-use water bottles.
- Sale Rotary Club will install a water tank and irrigation system to help grow vegetables in their community garden.
- Maffra Secondary College and Rosedale Primary School will install watering systems to help students harvest their own food and learn about the importance of water in the process.
- Thorpdale and District Bowling Club Inc. will install water tanks to maintain their greens, reducing the need to use valuable drinking water.
Ms Cumming congratulated the eight recipients on their successful applications and said she looked forward to seeing their initiatives come to life during the coming months.
