Major wastewater upgrade on track to support regional growth
Gippsland Water’s $55M upgrade to the Drouin Wastewater Treatment Plant is in full swing and on track to be completed late next year.
Managing director Sarah Cumming said the project was essential to meet the future needs of the town and local industries.
“West Gippsland is experiencing major growth and Drouin is expanding rapidly,” Ms Cumming said.
“The upgrade will result in cleaner discharges to local creeks, better protection of public health and the ability to recycle more wastewater for irrigation.”
Works commenced in January and the project is on schedule.
“The main construction works will be complete by late 2021, with the upgraded plant becoming fully operational in 2022,” Ms Cumming said.
The Drouin Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade is one of a number of Gippsland Water projects being delivered to support regional growth.
“We’re investing in key regional infrastructure to ensure our region remains vibrant and prosperous for both current and future generations,” Ms Cumming said.

- Moe to Warragul interconnecting pipeline - $15M
- Tyssen St pump station works at Warragul Water Treatment Plant - $3M
