New irrigation system keeps Mirboo North fairways green

Mirboo North Golf Club has installed a new recycled water irrigation system with funding from Gippsland Water.

The system was funded through Gippsland Water’s 2018-19 community support program, allowing the club to use water from the Mirboo North wastewater treatment plant to water their fairways.

Gippsland Water managing director Sarah Cumming said the organisation was pleased to support the initiative that makes water conservation a priority.

“It’s great to see local sporting clubs keen to conserve precious drinking water,” Ms Cumming said.

“We welcome the opportunity to work with community groups that are contributing towards a more sustainable Gippsland.”

Mirboo North Club captain Mark Hayles expressed appreciation for Gippsland Water’s $5,000 contribution.

“The greener fairways have attracted more people to use the golf course. We even see locals walking their dogs across the grass which is great to see,” Mr Hayles said.

Gippsland Water’s 2018-19 community support program also provided funding for Gippsland Rotary Centenary House to install a rain water tank, and Bug Blitz Trust to teach local students about waterway health.
