Raglan Street pump station upgrade works commence

Gippsland Water has begun preliminary works to replace the sewer pump station at the intersection of York Street and Raglan Street in Sale.

Gippsland Water Managing Director Sarah Cumming said the essential works will improve the reliability of the asset and make it safer for staff and contractors conducting routine maintenance.

“The health and safety of our community is our highest priority. Upgrading this pump station will allow us to continue providing a dependable and safe wastewater service for Sale.

“To upgrade this pump station, we’ll need to excavate a pit around three metres wide and eight metres deep on the nature strip beside the roundabout.”

Ms Cumming said that residents could expect to notice some machinery and noise on the north-western corner of the intersection of York Street and Raglan Street.

“At certain times, the left hand lane on the eastbound side of Raglan Street will be closed, which may cause some minor traffic delays. The footpath on the north-western corner of the intersection will also be closed.”

Ms Cumming urged community members to take extra care while passing through the area during the coming months, while the works are completed.

“While we’ve been in contact with the neighbouring properties and nearby schools to notify them of the works, we’re asking locals and passers-by to stay aware of the temporary conditions that will be in place.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we complete this important project, and also reassure our customers that there should not be any interruptions to your wastewater service as a result of the work,” Ms Cumming concluded.

The pump station upgrade is due to be completed by July 2019.
