Water improvements for Neerim South and Noojee

Gippsland Water has recently completed two water network upgrades to help improve water safety and reliability for Noojee and Neerim South.

Managing Director, Sarah Cumming said that the first of the upgrades was the replacement of the disinfection plant at the Neerim South water treatment plant.

“The new disinfection equipment enables more reliable dosing of the water as it enters the reticulation system, ensuring that our customers in the Neerim South and Noojee areas continue to receive safe, clean water.

“The installation and testing of this new plant took seven months to complete at a cost of $750,000,” Ms Cumming said.

The second upgrade involved replacing the aging Noojee water storage tank, which included installation of a new inlet control valve and connecting pipelines.

“The new 300,000 litre tank has an internal lining to prevent corrosion, which will extend the life of the tank and support the needs of the local community for years to come.

“It took six months to complete, at a cost of $400,000,” Ms Cumming said.

Ms Cumming praised the work of staff who put in place back-up arrangements during both projects to ensure that customers’ water supply wasn’t interrupted.

“Our crews worked hard to set up temporary tanks and connections to ensure continuity of water supply while these works took place,” Ms Cumming said.

Both projects were completed by local Gippsland-based contractors.
