Gippsland Water has completed works to secure the water supply for Moe and Newborough.

Managing director Sarah Cumming said the $1.8 million project to upgrade the Newborough water basin was completed in November.

“The 20-megalitre capacity basin supplies water to the Yallourn Power Station and almost 3000 residential customers in the Moe/Newborough area,” Ms Cumming said.

“It’s a crucial part of the Moe water supply network, which is why we prioritised this important work.

“Work involved removing the damaged cover and liner, repairs on the basin, installation of new inlet pipe work and pumped liner underdrain, followed by installation of a new liner and floating cover.”

Ms Cumming thanked residents in and around Candy Street, Shanahan Parade, McCarthy Road and Torres Street in Newborough for their patience during the works.

“We were pleased to be able to complete this upgrade with no interruption in supply for customers.”
